Canadian journalism has lost its preeminent writer on disability issues. Helen Henderson, who lived much of her professional life with multiple sclerosis died on April 11th  of cancer. Helen tackled cutting edge disability issues without ever sounding strident. The rights she demanded in her columns reflected her common sense and decency. Persons with disabilities should be included and accommodated because nothing less would be consistent with CANADIAN VALUES. She took the marginal issues for persons who were objects of charity and pity and made disability issues mainstream.

Helen wrote on the issues faced by a number of bakerlaw clients.  To read some of Helen’s coverage on bakerlaw clients, please see “Disability case headed to court” (link to article) and “Kilometres for Communication will raise awareness of people who can’t speak” (link to article).
