The Canadian Transportation Agency has been undergoing a major regulatory review, called the Regulatory Modernization Initiative, with the goal of improving all of its regulations. The is an opportunity to improve regulations regarding accessibility. Today, the CEO of the Agency, Scott Streiner, gave a speech outlining his vision to make Canada’s national transportation system the most accessible in the world. As said in his speech, “Travel on a plane, train, bus, or ferry is not just a convenience – it is an essential part of modern life.  That is why we should reach for universal accessibility.”

Bakerlaw has been advocating for a more accessible transportation system for many years.  We welcome Scott Streiner’s vision to improve the accessibility of our system. We will be closely monitoring what regulatory changes occur and how they address current needs of persons with disabilities.
