The debate was filmed following the Supreme Court of Canada’s hearing regarding the Federal Government’s request to extend the declaration of invalidity rendered in Carter v Canada. In this case, the Court ruled that Canadians should have access to physician assisted suicide provided it was available in a system that entailed adequate protections for vulnerable people. The Federal Government has until February 2016 to amend and enact the relevant legislation. It requested an extension to push this deadline back a further 6 months.
