The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paved the way for significant advancements in protecting human rights for persons with disabilities. This year, we celebrate 30 years of the ADA!

The “Burgdorf on Disability Rights” website dedicated to telling stories (past and present) and providing helpful insights on the topics of disability rights in the United States. Robert Burgdorf “is a leading disability rights writer, scholar, litigator, and legislative draftsperson; and is a person with a disability” (link). We will be following this website for a unique insider’s take on the American with Disabilities Act and its impact on law in the USA and beyond. We encourage anyone interested in the subject to explore the website here (link).

For a broader historical overview regarding the fight for disability rights, check out the New York Times story entitled: “Nothing About Us Without Us: 16 Moments in the Fight for Disability Rights” (link).

Another great article on the subject: “We’re 20 Percent of America and We’re Still Invisible” (link).

Let’s hope the next 30 years brings greater advances in equitable opportunities and justice for historically marginalized groups! More than hoping, let’s work towards that.
