Are we different?

That's what our clients tell us - and most seem to intend it as a compliment.

Are we different?

We take particular satisfaction in winning cases other lawyers have dismissed as unwinnable. Sometimes achieving a just outcome comes from helping our clients be the first to get where the law is going. More often it comes from finding an answer to law’s perpetual problem: matching a case that cries out for justice with the means of achieving it.

While no one can guarantee you a win every time, I can promise that every one of our clients will sense our dedication to making justice accessible. That’s why we are here.

There’s no magic to it, really. We keep our overhead low and we attract lawyers and legal workers of exceptional talent. They have come to us because they share the firm’s commitment to making justice accessible.

The firm doesn’t pretend to be all things to all people, nor are we necessarily going to tell you what you want to hear.  Sometimes the most valuable service we can perform is to indicate a case is a loser and help minimize the client’s losses.

Most frequently, we assist clients negotiate settlements quickly and efficiently.  The likelihood of achieving a favourable settlement is substantially enhanced with a lawyer who has a track record of going to the Supreme Court of Canada, if necessary, in order to achieve a just outcome for a client.

In brief, we have a special interest in litigating challenging cases, without losing sight of our client’s goals.

We also have an interest in advancing the interests of clients, even if it is not possible to perform the traditional role of legal counsel from the beginning to the end of a case.  While it is not our preferred option, we may agree to “unbundle” our services and enter a retainer to provide clients with a consultation at crucial stages in the litigation process. Watch our website for news about how we are intending to provide a new and unique form of training for people who have no option but to represent themselves in a hearing.

Inaccessibility is the major cause of injustice in Canada. bakerlaw is dedicated to doing everything a private law firm can do to make justice accessible.

Check out our website to find out more about the cases we have argued and the clients we have represented.  If you have any further questions about what we do, I invite you to get in touch with us directly. In the meantime, I would like to thank you on – behalf of all of Bakerlaw’s lawyers and support staff – for visiting us online and taking the time to learn about our firm.
